What is Lolita Fashion, Anyways?

 About The Fashion

Lolita fashion originated in Japan in the late 1980's/early 90's. By the late 90's, lolita fashion was ending up in street fashion magazine, Fruits, and The Gothic and Lolita Bible magazine was launched by 2001. It found its way across the globe not long after.

The fashion itself is focused on feminine, modest, but extravagant clothing that takes inspirations from Rococo and Victorian aesthetic. It has a distinctive silhouette, large skirts achieved with petticoats, and is often adorned with multiple, themed accessories and shoes. There are many different types of lolita- sweet, gothic, and classic are examples, and they vary in aesthetic and color palette, but overall remain dedicated to the silhouette. The fashion has nothing to do with the novel of the same name.
